The 14th Educational conference and SIET International conference was held at SECAB Bijapur on the theme: Affordable Quality, Technical and Inclusive Education’. The conference started with the recitation of verses    from Holy Quran and Bhagwat Geeta. Dr. HK Yadahalli, Principal CK Degree College welcomed the guests, speakers and audience.

Dr. Khwaja M Shahid, President, All India Educational Movement (AIEM) thanked SECAB for hosting the conference and making all the hospitality arrangements and introduced AIEM. He stated said that technology is playing important role in the present day specially AI which was called ‘Nuke’ by Elon Musk.

Dr. Fauzia Khan, MP (RS) and Patron, AIEM spoke online and stated that we are passing through difficult times but only education can empower us. During increasing hate speeches we need   to save our children by exercising democratic rights and joining together.

Padam Shiri Prof Akhtarul Wasey, former VC, Maulana Azad University, Jodhpur spoke on importance of education and recollected prophet’s hadis that it is the duty of every Muslim Man and Woman to get knowledge. This is also revealed from decisions of prophet to discharge the prisoners of Badar on payment of Fidiya or educating ten Muslims.

Guest of Honour H.H. Basavalinga Swamiji, Nature Care Ashram Shirur praised the work being done by AIEM and stated that knowledge is power and mind has become superman. He felt that man is image of God and emphasised the importance of yoga.

Mr. Abdul Rashid, Gen Secretary, AIEM and Mr. Waseem Nidgundi, SECAB moderated the session.

SECAB International Conference on Collaborative Learning in Technology through Faculty and Student Leadership:

Dr. Shujauddin Punekar, Director, SECAB and Mr. S.S. Bilgipeer, retd Joint Registrar. Cooperative Societies, Karnataka introduced the subject and SECAB Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Dr. Masrina, School of Chemical Engineering, USM from Malaysia spoke on global collaboration for quality education, equity in education, inclusive education, STEAM Education and affordable education.

Mr. Zain Peerzade spoke on success of SECAB aluminous in establishing technology start up in America. He stated that building blocks for a successful career include continuous learning, career success, community impact, networking adaptability and call to action.

Dr. Awab Fakih spoke on need of technology in education including collaborative learning, mind mapping, fulfilling the gape in value addition and how to get patent on dry manufacturing.

The second Talk was delivered by Faculty of SIET including Dr. S.A. Quadri, HOD SIET on understanding failure of transformer, Dr. Ziyaullah Chodhary on Neurological disorder, Dr. Aslam J. Kerjagi on Cyber Hygiene, Dr. Prashant Metri on mutrame of P-53, Dr. A.A. Dhundshi on definition and properties of RPC.

The Third Talk was laying out the ambition and vision of SIET in which Dr. Abbas Ali, Principal and Prof. in SIET spoke o n History of SECAB and goal to achieve status of deemed university.

Mr. Abdul Kareem, VTU 2nd Rank Holder, SIET Alumnus stated that ignorance is the mother of poverty and education provides us movement and material well being.

The session was moderated by Dr. A.M. Sangogi and Ms. Uzma Satteekar of SECAB.

Political History & Educational System in Medieval Deccan:

Dr. Mushtak Inamdar, HOD, Dept of History, SECAB recalled the history of medieval Deccan including the reign and fall of Adil Shah in 1686, system of madrasas     and  the fall of Aurangzeb. Bijapur was called Banaras of south and Gol Gumbuz is world famous historical building.

Prof. Syed Wajid Peeran, Anjuman Degree College traced the history of Bahmani and Adil Shah Dynasty, where Sultan used to be all powerful and people had high regard for Sufi Saints like Khwaja Bandanawaz and Hazrat Hashim Peerjee.

Janab Abdul Hameed Mushrif was the Chief Guest of this session and Prof K.P. Sadat was convener.

Muslim Contribution to Education in India:

Dr. Mehboob Kalburgi, Principal Al-Ameen Medical College stated that  during Saltanat period India become centre of secular and religious education and there was interaction between intellectual   world and India. The purpuse of education in Islam has been balanced growth of man.

Mehmood Ganvan established a grand madrasa with hostel at Bidar, KTK during Adil Shahi regime.

Dr. Roshan Ara, Retd. Principal, SECAB Degree College.

She informed that Nizams of Hyderabad  encouraged education but it was restricted to elites. Firoz Shah Tughlaq and Sikandar Lodhi also encouraged education. Darul Uloom was set up at Deoband and AMU at Aligarh. Abdul Kalam Azad and Zakir Hussain were the architects of modern education.

Prof. Zaheer Zafri of DU (R) stated that Muslims always supported education since inception as Islam emphasised to get knowledge from mother’s lap to the grave. Muslim traders who came to India setup their institutions.

Dr. Idrees Qureshi from AIEM presided over the session and said that both religious and modern education are necessary and appreciated the role played by Maulana Azad and Dr. Zakir Hussain, Al-Ameen &   and Muslim Education Society Dr. Sajida Dafedar, of SECAB was convenor of the session.

Universalization of School Education:    

Mr. Tanveer Ahmed, Secretary, Central Education Board, JIH spoke on ‘Educational Agenda for the Community’ He stressed on intagrated education is our schools    and   madarsas to prepare noble souls (swahileen). He suggested to teach life skills and make education part of our culture, produce one graduate in every family. Our rich resources should be used in schools and masajid specially by retired settled persons. Should make use of Vidyalaya Volunteers scheme in all cities. As we are equal citizens of this country we should make use of Govt. schemes and give suggestions to Govt. for their improvement. We should create a fund for at mohalla level for poor students.

Dr. Mahantesh Biradar, PS to Minister gave a talk on Basavanna Vachanas Related to Education’. As per the vachanas dignity resides in every individual as every child has a right to learn. Education is path of self awareness and empathy.

Dr. Mohd Afzal speaking on Muslim contribution to education recalled the establishment of Usmania University in 1917 by Mir Usman Ali Khan. Nadvatul Ulma, JMI and AMU etc. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was instrumental in establishing great educational institutions like IITs, IIMs, UGC, AMU and JMI etc. SECAB has also contributed a lot in providing education to poor students in the area.

Mr. Moin Akhtar, Lecturer (R) Govt. of Delhi commented on the recent decision of Govt. of UP to close down thousands of schools resulting in making our children rag pickers instead of going to schools. He also explained the difference between literacy and education.

Advocate Aslam Ahmed, Executive Member, AIEM moderated the session.

Public Meeting:

A public meeting was addressed by Dr. Ismail Shaikh of Sholapur and chaired by principal of Al-Ameen Medical College. Dr. Ismail advised that meaningful life depends on our relations with self, family, society, God and nature. The present generation of 2000 onwards is Z generation where there is no system. It is directionless and there is no personal relationship, it being single family. We have too much of digital disorder. The real knowledge is befitting the nature. Presently knowledge is doubling every 13 month but soon it is going to double in 12 hours. Hence we need lifelong learning and positive change.

Vijaypura: ‘A Potential World Heritage City & Role of Citizens in City Management & Development’

Dr. M.B. Mulla, Principal, MSI. He spoke on revisiting the neglected heritage precincts of Vijaypura’s Central historic core to achieve world heritage tag. As there is lack of planning and conservation for protection of monuments, he recommended strategising for building inter departmental  partnership, developing capacity building, constituting an agency to undertake conservation and development of the city and better coordination among the GOI., State Govt and local municipal corporation.

Prof. Irshad Ahmed Punekar  speaking on exploring Vijaypura as a potential world heritage city, he informed that Bijapur has 80 listed monuments. UNESCO has 10 criteria for including any monument in its list. Gol-Gumbaz has  already lost world heritage tag. Bijapur is listed like Ahmadabad and Jaipur but efforts need to be made for better protection and conservation of listed monuments through CSR funds.  ASI is considering privatisation of some of its functions for better protection and maintenance of   listed monuments.

Prof. Rukhsana Algur: spoke on capacity building towards a world heritage city. She suggested four criteria heritage for better conversation and  management  including community involvement and strengthening  governance. This can be done by setting up an autonomous  institution on the pattern of Ahmadabad including a conversation cell.

Shri Peter Alexandar, Social Activist, Vijayapura: He pointed out that the monuments have been neglected and encroached upon and emphasized need for the preservation, protection and scientific and sustainable developments. He felt that politics and development cannot go together.

Dr. H.G. Gadhi: He informed that Bijapur has 300 internationally acclaimed historic monuments      but unfortunately  60 out of them are encroached  upon. Hence there is need to create public awareness for their protection and preservation by Govt. / Public participation.

Mr. Anil Kumar, Distt Tourism Consultant. Speaking on the role and responsibility of distt tourism deptt.  he informed that out of 96 ASI protected monuments,  24 are of special tourist interest. He gave data on schemes under tourism deptt, major tourism development works and tourist visitors.

Mr. Anwar Punekar, Director SECAB presided over the session and expressed concern over encroachment in the monuments. He expressed   appreciation for Ms. Sudha Murthy over pleading the cause of Bijapur in the house and demanded opening circle office of ASI in Bijapur.

Role of Civil Society in Promotion of Education:

Dr. Abdul Qadeer, Chairman, Shaheen Group stated that Shaheen Group and SECAB are living example of role of civil society. He lamented that due to opposition from certain sections of community, our institutions are being destroyed. He informed that Shaheen is now teaching 35000 students including 11000 in Bidar including 1% medical seat across the country. He emphasised the need of modern education side by side religious education.

Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Patel, MANUU. He agreed that our educational NGO’s are our civil society. One has to get knowledge from Creteil to grave. Our parents, teachers, students and management and infrastructure are our civil society. He advised that civil society should support poor students as Govt. school and schemes are not sufficient.

Mr. Rajeshekhar, VN, All India Save Education Society recalled the role of Vidyasagar, Jyotirba Phule and Raja Ram Mohan Ray in promotion of education. He lamented that Centre Govt. is spending less than 1 % of central budget on education and NEP 20-20 is promoting privatization and communalization.  Only 15-16 % of students go for higher studies because of high cost.

Dr. Ilyas Saifi, Secretary, AIEM. He stated that our senior citizens sitting on tea shops are better than those who pass time in Masjid, or family   shops or watching   TV because they help the society indirectly. He was of the view that dropout rate has now come down and suggested we should adopt schools who have limited resources.

Mr. SS Biligipeer, Rtd. Jt. Registrar Cooprative Societies who chaired the session stated that both religious and modern education are necessary. Shaheen is a good example of civil society and such NGOs should be set up in every distt.   Ignorance is the root course of all evils and only education can cure it. Out of 15 lakh schools 70 % belong to Govt. but there is lot of difference in quality education in govt and private schools.

Parallel System of Education (Madrasa Education):

Mr. Syed Mansoor Agha stated that differentiation between religious & modern education is not correct as these are two sources of knowledge – Manqoolat (revealed knowledge) and Maqoolat or worldly knowledge like science etc. We should follow the path shown by Quran and think over the ayaat of Quran.

Mr. Abu Bakar Ansari who was Chief Guest of the session informed that both  religious and modern education need to be taken care. Our Madaris were teaching modern subjects also in medieval times is clear from the architecture of Taj Mahal. Maulana Azad National Urdu University is recognising degrees awarded by the national level madaris.

Maulana Ayyub Mohiuddin Nadvi of Baitul Uloom, Sindagi, Gulbarga stated that education and knowledge have played pivotal role in the rise and fall of nations. To differentiate religious and modern education has been harmful as Quran says that Allah revealed all knowledge to the mankind. He felt that Madrasa taught students are better than school taught students in many respects as Madarsas teach how to be a better man.

Maulana Shakeel Mulla, Bijapur. He considered Madrasa system of education is essential for the country. There are  one lakh Madaris in the country  teaching    about one crore     children. Suffa in Madina was the first Madarsa in Islam. Out of 23 Madaris in distt Bijapur. 13 are giving      both religious  and modern education up to 10th  class. He felt that Govt.    should not interfere  in Madarsa system of education.

Mr. Sikandar Islahi. He was of the view that all knowledge is for the service of mankind. Although madarsa system is complete in itself but some changes are desirable.

Dr. Safi Anwary, Executive Member, AIEM put up vote of thanks to speakers and audience.

Women Education and Empowerment:

Prof. B.K. Tulsimala, VC Karnataka State Women’s University Bijapur. She stated that we have    to go along way to achieve, equality, equity etc. to remove dispirits. Despite some achievements many of our women have  no access to education. For affordable education we need more schools and colleges. There is lack of support services for study    of marginalised sections. There is also need for mentorship and acquiring skills for leadership of women.

Dr. Haleema Sadia, Executive Member AIEM speaking on line she said that she is presently is Malaysia because of her concern for education. Education is the cornerstone of empowerment. She felt that women are quite empowered in Singapore, Maldieves and Dubai. In Malaysia 47%  of woman are participating in business as against 15 % only in India. Our Muslim women are not participating in social on professional responsibilities.

Ms. Mehar Afshan, Social Worker. She expressed concern on diminishing family values in our children and respect for the elders and advised parents to have an eye on their adolescent children specially in use of mobile.

Dr. Hajira Parveen HOD, SECAB. She also emphasized on family values and respect for the elders quoting from Hadees that ’Heaven is under the feet of mother’. She also narrated the story of Hazrat Abul Qadir Jeelani who spoke truth when encountered with dacoits.   .

Valedictory session:

The session started with the recitation from holy Quran and Bhagwat Geeta.

Valedictory address was given by Dr. Khwaja M Shahid, President, AIEM. First of All he thanked SECAB specially Mr. Salahuddin Punekar for hosting the conference, making all the arrangements for boarding and lodging of speakers and delegates.

Education was taught in India even in ancient times and people from abroad also visited to get education. He referred to Lord Macaley for introducing modern

education in India and Kothari Commission for laying out first Educational Policy. But he also quoted Chairman UGC that there is no effective contributing teaching in the country. He emphasised the need of early child education as mentioned in NEP 2020. This is important for our community schools also. We have to face challenges posed by A.I.

Pandit Madhawacharya who was Guest of Honour in the session stated that Vedyas are  oldest granths. He desired that we should educate all mankind and service of mankind is best lesson. Whatever we do is with the Aashirbad of God. Ishwarwad and Bhaktibad should go together. Similarly Dharam and Education should also go together has it is only dharma which differentiates between man and animal.

Mr. Abdul Rashid Gen Secretary presented a review of the conference right    from the Inaugural Session. Firstly he thanked the SECAB for hosting the conference and providing the good hospitality. He briefly recollected the main speaker of the various sessions including those speaking on line from abroad. Later a student from SECAB also presented a brief review.

Dr. Shaharyar Member AIEM also presented his view on the conference and narrated a story of a person who was worshiping all the time but was not considered fit for Jannat by Allah. Later when he prayed that no one else should be sent to hell,   God was pleased for his care with the entire mankind and was allotted Jannat.

Dr. Shujauddin Punekar,   Director, SECAB in his presidential remarks thanked the faculty and staff of SECAB and Management of SECAB and AIEM for organising the conference so well. He appreciated the views of Pandit Madhavacharya on education and oneness of the God Almighty.

EDUCATIONAL CARAVAN 2024

On the way to Bijapur for parcipating in 14th educational conference, AIEM delegation visited Mumbai and Bhiwandi. At Mumbai the delegation/Caravan had a meeting with Dr.  Zahir Kazi, President and Dr. SK Abdullah, VP of Anjuman-e-Islam. The Anjuman has 100 Institutions having 1,10,000. It has adopted holistic approach and working specially for poor students providing education in semi English medium. The meeting was held in impressive board room of the Anjuman. The institutions of Anjuman can be a role model for our educational institutions.

Later in the evening the caravan visited Rais High School and Junior College, Bhiwandi managed by Konkan Muslim Education Society. The Office Bearers of AIEM specially Mr. Abdul Rashid, Gen Secretary and Syed Mansoor Agha introduced AIEM and its activities and shared their views with the management and faculty of the society. The caravan was welcomed by Mr. Yaseen Momin, VP, Mr. Zubair Nervi, Chairman, Academic Committee who informed about their educational institutions which have 22000 students providing education in semi English medium. The society is trying to set up a Medical College in Bhiwandi for which plot of land is already available. Mr. Abdul Aziz Ansari, ex VP put up a vote of thanks.

Gulbargha: After the educational conference at Bijapur, the AIEM delegation/caravan moved towards Bidar. On the way the caravan had a small stop over at Gulbhargha and visited Shaheen Senior secondary school and exchanged pleasantaries with the Principal of school. Later the caravan also visited Dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Banda Nawaz Gesudaraz.

Bidar: On reaching Bidar in the evening of 12th Nov, 2024 the caravan was made comfortable in Shaeen guest house and served sumptuous dinner and was briefed about shaheen activities in their control room.

On the next day Dr. Abdul Qadeer, Chairman of Shaheen Group of Institutions personally accompanied the caravan to his office and committee room.

Breakfast was served to the delegation during the presentation on setting up of study centres in vacant upper floors of community masajid. Mr. A.R. Azmi took the caravan for showing Shaheen facilities in the campus including Academic ICU Room, monitoring center of Shaeen Huffaz centers across the country. An estimated 5000 huffaz have completed high school through NIOS. Later the caravan was also shown Shaeen girls campus having 1500 students, Kannad students campus, Madarsa Mahmood Gavan and Bidar Fort which was also running Shaheen food centre. The Caravan comprised of Mr. Abdul Rashid, Gen Secretary, Syed Mansoor Agha, Dr. Ilyas Saifi, Secretary, Mr. Mozaffar Ali, Treasurer, Advocates Aslam Ahmed and Raees Ahmad, Dr. Safi Anwary,  Dr. Qazi  Mohammd Miyan, Mr. Sikandar Islahi, Mrs. Afshan Agha, Dr. Idrees Qureshi and Aijaz Ahmad Ghauri etc.

Quranic Guidance, Teachings Essential to Protect, Preserve Marital Bonding, Family Values

Speaking as Chief Guest, Prof. Abdul Qayyum Ansari, an academic from Jamia Millia Islamia and Executive Member of AIEM, emphasised the importance of preserving traditional family systems. He urged the younger generation to turn to religious teachings and Ulama as sources of guidance for building a value-based society.

Dr. Raziul Islam Nadvi, Secretary, Shariah Council, JIH, pointed out the balance between law and morality in Islamic teachings, stating that 80% of guidance is rooted in morality, while 20% pertains to law. He argued that adherence to morality could eliminate the need for legal interventions. Referring to marital disputes, he stressed that if couples adhered to Quranic principles in matters of marriage, relationships, and family, issues such as divorce could be avoided, reducing the need for court involvement.

Drawing from her experience with prolonged divorce cases, Advocate Zeba Khair, Family Law Practitioner, advocated for the establishment of a separate tribunal for divorce cases in India. She emphasised the role of mediation and counselling during disputes and praised Islamic guidance as the most comprehensive approach to marital and family matters. She also urged families and well-wishers to seek solutions based on Quranic and Sunnah principles rather than escalating conflicts.

Advocate Firdouse Qutb Wani, Supreme Court of India, underscored the importance of parenting in fostering a value-based family and society. She questioned whether individuals genuinely follow Islamic guidance in marriages and other relationships, emphasising the need for a commitment to ethical and moral principles.

Dr. Syed Farooq, Patron, AIEM, who presided over the programme, criticised the concept of live-in relationships, likening them to companionship among animals rather than human relationships. He lamented the growing disregard for parental identities in certain Western societies, contrasting it with India’s enduring respect for family systems. He called for love, respect, and empathy as essential tools for preserving family values.

During the programme, a book titled “Muslim Inheritance” by Mr. Anwar Alam was also released. The programme began with a welcome address by Advocate Aslam Ahmed, Advocate-on-Record at the apex court. Advocate Raees Ahmad, the programme convener, conducted the proceedings, while Ilyas Saify delivered a vote of thanks.

ALL INDIA EDUCATIONAL MOVEMENT

ORGANISES  EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

The Centre for Training & Development at Jamia Hamdard in collaboration with the All India Educational Movement and Hamdard Learning & Welfare Society, New Delhi, organized a ten-day Workshop on Executive Development Programme for University’s Non – Teaching Staff from 22nd July to 2nd August 2024.

The Inaugural function was held 3:30 PM on July 22nd, 2024. Prof.  Reshma Nasreen, Chairperson of the Centre for Training & Development, welcome  the distinguished guests and Prof. Khwaja Shahid, President of All India Educational Movement (AIEM) provided an insightful introduction to the workshop. Mr. Shaukat Mufti, Executive Secretary, Hamdard Learning & Welfare Society & Dr. M.A. Sikandar, Registrar of Jamia Hamdard also addressed the gathering. Nineteen participants, comprising of Assistant Registrars, Section Officers, and Senior Assistants from various departments, actively participated in the workshop.

Through 16 sessions, the participants have embarked on a rigorous and transformative journey designed to enhance their skills, broaden their perspective and unlock their potential.

The Valedictory function was held on 2nd August, 2024. Vice Chancellor, Prof, M. Afshar Alam, Dr. M.A. Sikandar, Registrar of Jamia Hamdard; Prof. Khwaja Shahid, President of AIEM, Mr. Abdul Rashid, Coordinator and Gen Secretary of AIEM, Prof.  Reshma Nasreen, Chairperson of CTD, Prof. Sayeedun Nisa, Honorary Director of CTD and the faculty members of CTD participated in the Program. Certificates were given to participants.
